What kind of car do you have – “historic” or “classic”?
1960 Chevy El Camino
1940s Wolseley
You’ve owned it forever or you’re eyeing it online or at a car show — one of the great muscle cars of the 60s and 70s or a real vintage beauty from the 40s.The State of Arizona MVD has 3 classic and historic specialty license plates, each for a different type of vehicle.
To qualify as a “Classic Car,” it must be on the “Approved Classics” list of The Classic Car Club of America. The club defines a car a classic as a “‘Fine’ or ‘Distinctive’ automobile, American or foreign built, produced between 1925 and 1948.” The 1940s Wolseley pictured above is a great example.
A “Historic Vehicle” is at least 25 years old. The classic 1960 Chevy El Camino shown above is a perfect example. Though it may be called a “classic,” as many muscle cars are, in AZ, it’s considered a “Historic Vehicle.” Note: the 25 year or older rule may not apply to your vehicle.*
1915 Ford Model “T”
Now, a “Horseless Carriage” is a vehicle that was made in 1915 or older like the 1915 Ford Model “T” on the right.
Another thing you need to know before applying for one of the classic or historic tags, is that your insurance company MUST insure it properly as a classic vehicle to be exempt from an emissions test and must have a letter from the Insurance company saying they meet AZ requirements for collectible insurance.
Classic cars are not meant to be driven on the street regularly except to go to a car show. *If your car is around the 25 year old mark, you need to contact your insurance company to make sure it qualifies as a historic vehicle.
Please give us a call and we can help you with any questions about collectible vehicles and their proper registration.

Poster commemorating the 140th Flag Day on June 14, 1917
Flag Day is celebrated in many countries around the world – sometimes on it’s their independence day sometimes on the day the flag was adopted.
The United States celebrates it on June 14 the day the flag was adopted by the Second Continental Congress in 1777.
June 14th is also the United States Army’s birthday which was adopted as the “American Continental Army” by consensus position in the Committee of the Whole on June 14, 1775.
The city of Hartford, CT was the first to observe the day in 1861 with a patriotic program praying for the success of the Federal arms and the preservation of Union. Unfortunately, it did not become a tradition.
In 1885, grade school teacher, Bernard J. Cigrand, known as the “Father of Flag Day,” held the first recognized formal observance of Flag Day at the Stony Hill School. The restored school now houses the National Flag Day Americanism Center in Waubeka, WI.
Starting in the late 1880s, Cigrand traveled the nation promoting patriotism, respect for the flag and the need for an annual observance of the day the flag was adopted.
He became president of the American Flag Day Association and later of the National Flag Day Society. He had presented 2,188 speeches on patriotism and the flag in his lifetime.
President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation in 1916 that officially established June 14 as Flag Day. National Flag Day was established in 1949 by an Act of Congress and signed by Harry Truman.
The week of June 10-16, 2012 is National Flag Week, during which the President issues a proclamation urging U.S. citizens to fly the American flag for the whole week.
Remember this song: “You’re a Grand Old Flag” from “Yankee Doodle Dandy” with James Cagney in 1942? I remember singing it as part of a patriotic pageant in elementary school.
Lyrics:
You’re a grand old flag
You’re a high-flying flag
And forever in peace may you wave.
You’re the emblem of the land I love,
The home of the free and the brave.
Every heart beats true for the red, white and blue,
And there’s never a boast or brag.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
Keep your eye on the grand old flag!
